North Palermo School Competition

The site is defined, on one side, by the prominent landscape features of Monte Pellegrino and, further in the background, Pizzo Sella and Capo Gallo, and on the other by the lot’s ragged outline, which has no recognizable shape.

The project proposes three courtyard buildings with square plans and a rigorous geometric layout. Their design seeks to dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors, bringing the landscape and geographical features of the surrounding context into the interior spaces.

The project identified the founding values in these two elements, using them as the basis for its formal and spatial planning. Its aim was to make the views of Monte Pellegrino and the ridge of Pizzo Sella and Capo Gallo an integral part of the school’s inner landscape, bringing the site’s layout into a legible, measurable order.
