Sailem
The building dates from the early 1930s and was built within the grounds of Palermo’s Castello a Mare to house a marine construction company. Recent restoration work on the castle grounds involved demolishing more than 30,000 cubic metres of later additions that covered the entire area.
Sailem is the only building that has been preserved. As architectural consultant to the Port Authority of Palermo, the executive design was prepared and construction supervision provided. The building houses a literary café, open to the public, with a panoramic terrace.
