Cycle paths and a pedestrian and cycle bridge in Mazara del Vallo
The footbridge design required careful structural analysis to prevent dynamic resonance under the expected cycle and pedestrian traffic.
The dimensions of its cross-section make the walkway feel like a place to inhabit, rather than simply a link in the urban pedestrian and cycle route. Sheltered by perforated walls and a roof, it will offer a shaded, breezy space for small gatherings, exhibitions and events. At night, lit from within, the walkway becomes a great lantern, an iconic feature of the new-old Mazara.
The load-bearing structure will be steel, with a lattice framework, partially screened by a perforated metal skin—a tribute to Mazara’s millennia-old urban tradition, its Kasbah and its characteristic forms. This skin will be made of corten steel, a contemporary material with virtually no maintenance costs.
