Olive mill

The accommodation is located in an early 20th-century building on the edge of Palermo’s historic centre. Every room, as well as every bathroom, is different. The furnishings were also designed for the project and made by local artisans.

Designing for the desert requires a deep understanding of its extreme temperatures. From winter frost to oppressive summer heat, the region experiences every kind of extreme weather, and homes must be built to withstand it. Rain and wind, days of relentless sunshine—these are all factors we had to consider in our design for this region. In addition to adopting modern strategies, we drew on traditional design principles used by generations of Indigenous people, combining the two approaches to create modern homes in this timeless desert environment.
